GLOBAL RADIO BLUES

This XM radio has a pretty good jazz station and a decent classic country station but most of the others totally suck. It’s just weird, the whole satellite radio thing. It’s cold, and global, and detached. I miss the regional flavor of good AM and FM radio. That feeling of good fortune you get when you find a great station on the dial in a town you don’t know well. That doesn’t happen on the space radio.

I had the XM radio once in a rental car. I agree, it's too cold, like the voices of big brother corporate Earth. I like the regional stations that come and go as the miles fly by. Plus you get a flavor of the area, news, weather, local sports fanaticsm, etc.

Oh, I've a reason for you to stop in a Cracker Barrel. They put out a series of CD's, in association with some American Historical Recording Organization or something. Bill Kirchen did a CD w/his style of "dieselbilly" music, some fine cuts including "Streets of Baltimore" and "Buckaroo". If you disagree w/their corporate politics, just go in, use their bathroom and get the CD.

I just returned to SF from LA, listened to your new CD numerous times on I-5. Just beautiful, except that I have the song "Humbolt" permanently embedded in my mind.
